The Standard Resort is part of Fashion House, a collective project that speculates on the spatial implications of the future of the fashion industry in five post-industrial cities throughout Europe, collectively referred to as the Red Thread.

This contribution proposes an all-inclusive Valencian beachside resort, The Standard Resort, a microcosm of society in which both guests and designers in residence immerse themselves in an enclosed and fully regulated environment. During their stay, guests, their bodies, and their resort-provided outfits are on full display for everyone within spaces of simultaneous performance and spectating. This resort—an escape from daily life for people of the Red Thread—serves as a testing ground for the recalibration of clothing norms and body standards.

In 2040, increased leisure time encourages people to break away from their daily routines and seek out opportunities to experiment with social behaviours. This is in response to the contemporary condition, in which people follow the through advertisement and standardization established fashion norms and impose these norms on other people, homogenizing social contact in public space.

Examining how fashion norms are dictated through the design, programming, and marketing of space, the resort consists of two opposite worlds. The standardized structure accommodates the stylistically conventional guestrooms and facilities that dictate known dress codes. In contrast, the ballroom -sited in a former wine storage facility- is a constructed disorder that blurs these conventions, allowing designers and consumers to let go of their shame and challenge and redefine fashion norms. Having fulfilled a 3-month residency testing and learning from this context, designers are granted the Shameless certification.

Sited in the Liège city center, this contribution proposes an urban winery that blends terroir fragments across the Blue Banana, exploring protection regulations that can build upon the knowledge, tradition, and novel techniques of winemaking.

Closely related to the idea of protectionism, and dictated by various regulation policies, wine production and its associated terroir are currently tied to the soil, and, therefore, to a greater rural territory. This contribution posits that due to climate change and technological advancement, the political notion of the “terroir”—as a spatial and conceptual entity that has shaped viticulture—will be revisited in the near future, introducing a new set of qualities and architectural ideas related to wine production.

A belief in the winery’s urban potential drives an attempt to go beyond protectionism by bringing wine production within the architecture of the city, at a moment when Europe—the birthplace of the Old World Wine—must reimagine the future of viticulture.

Cartographic Gibraltar focuses on mapping process mainly around the contested coastal line with a series of urban conditions like disputable developments, projects, proposals, agreements and historical events. The map from now on is called designerly which means an approach to conceptualize everyday experiences, identify deeper meanings and relationships with both human and non-human forms of agency. By suggesting new understanding about space, place and time, designerly mapping can inform holistic approaches to design across a range of design purposes and intentions. Gibraltar is in a state of constant change and as it is projected in the future will continue to take advantage of it. Existing tools are not sufficient enough to deal with the speed of this change in order to design efficiently by bringing together the accumulation of the palimpsest past and present of this piece of land. The territory has very narrow land and due to its rock tiny piece of land is physically available to build with it. With the projected increase in population, while the need for land to build for housing, public, industry etc, there is no proper understanding of its threats and opportunities which is happening all around a single coastal line. This line has no physical border anymore because it has been changed continuously by different agencies such as disputes, environmental challenges and land reclamation. The focus point of this work can be explained in three-fold, It discusses the current developments around the territory and coast in both political and environmental aspects. Then, it selects critical projects to show and assemble them. Following this, opens up possibilities, to emerge new realities, does not provide completed design proposals, to provide a base for 2050 Municipality of Gibraltar for the future design and policies.
The assemblage of the projects aims to reveal a critical scenario when all the projects happen in a way they are proposed by different stakeholders, developers, students and politicians in their perspective to show vanishing qualities of the surrounding landscape and uncontrolled development.
Aim of the project is to develop a cartographic stage which allows different urban scenarios to occur and play on it. The idea of the stage gives a base to interpret Gibraltar as a palimpsest, different interests were brought together for mutual benefits. What is meant by mutual benefits is to with subliminal conditions which regular maps and plans can not provide and which forms a metaphoric space in the city needs a form of expression. While creating distinct layers that would come together, Cartographic Gibraltar produces separate activities whilst being on the same page.

Healthcare has been often described as the most complex human organization ever devised.
The life of hospitals has been supplanted many times by an aseptic compliance with norms, regulations, procedures, protocols, and hyper technologies. Hence, there is no longer any trace of the old sacred enclosures, the Greek temples, the Roman valetudinaria, hospices, of the home of the sick, or cathedrals and abbeys equipped to host people in need. The hospital as an inflexible monument of civic pride was to remain until the second half of the twentieth century.
We often perceive the hospital as a place adorned with hard light, bare corridors, with no personal or interesting features. As Mukherjee wrote in The Emperor of All Maladies, “Science begins with counting. To understand a phenomenon, a scientist must first describe it; to describe it objectively, he must first measure it.” Hence, to describe the future of healthcare is necessary to understand the forces shaping it.
Aging and growing populations, greater prevalence of chronic diseases, and exponential advances in innovative—but costly—digital technologies are the developments that continue to increase demand and expenditure. The future of healthcare is also much less centered around institutions; it is rapidly becoming decentralized, dematerialized, demonetized, and, ultimately, democratized. As healthcare becomes more data-driven, it is also becoming more personalized.
This is the story of families moving to Gibraltar. This is the story of a new hospital—the ultimate housing for births, souls, hopes, and dignity. This project proposes Gibraltar as a healthcare destination. In the tradition of Swiss mountain open-air sanatoria, it has a strategic location, boasting effective local healthcare legislation, economic incentives, and continued infrastructural development between southern Europe and youthful north Africa. It is isolated from chaotic cities, with a positive climate (300 days of sunshine a year), green slopes, sea views, fresh air, and quieter streets.
Gibraltar is the perfect set because of the current and forecasted importance of healthcare in its economy. Based on Gibraltar's budget between 2017 and 2019, a forecast envisions a growing expenditure in the healthcare field. The forecast demographic increase suggests almost 30% of the new population will be composed of children under 18.
In the peaceful ambience of the mighty Rock, only a short walking distance from the Royal Naval Hospital, a block of sheltered housing with primary health facilities (emergency, occupational therapy, and imaging departments) aspires to renovate, making the transition from home to hospital imperceptible. By all measures, in fact, the home is the future of healthcare.
Specifically, the proposal focuses on the design of a long-term residential paediatric centre, targeting young patients and families who normally travel far from their homes to specialized hospitals. Hence, the design for Gibraltar's 2050 hospital envisions the city-state as a place for treatment, healing, and recovery, strengthening the economy by serving the population expansion and strengthening Gibraltar’s position as an attractive and pleasant place to live.
Architecturally, the bottom-up complex provides an experiential journey from medical processes and foyers, common spaces, and a public healing garden (the Rock itself), to rest, healing, and independence. The new social and architectural melting-pot attempts to combine the notions of domesticity and hospitality in a secluded area on the Rock.
In summation, this social-architectural project aims to reach a point of privacy and dignity, especially through its small, human scale. Families and residents of all ages and origins can enjoy much-needed breathing space, and carry on their normal and dignified lives.

This project explores the realities of production in the Irish landscape, and speculates upon certain industries that maintain both a rural economy and Ireland’s architectural identity. The essence of this project as the name suggest, is to combine two residual industries in Ireland, farming and the pharmaceutical industry into one new synthetic architectural type, The Farmacy. These Farmacies, house a pharmaceutical production facility within the traditional scale of the smallholding or farm, while using the authentic spatial model of the Irish monastery. It provides an alternative to the existing fragmented pharmaceutical production landscape. In its density, scale, repeatability and seriality it continues to define an architecture of rural Ireland, while they also give a much-needed identity to an economically important emerging industry.

The Irish border, runs for 499 km separating the Republic of Ireland from Northern Ireland. Since its implementation in 1912, the border fluctuated in its permeability and meaning, for there it witnessed great periods of instability, quietness, denial and insignificance. When the “Good Friday agreement was signed” the common ground of the EU helped blur the choice between a united island of Ireland and a united kingdom. Today, the Irish border, is just another Irish landscape that is only relevant because of its location, and that seamless transition, is once again to be debated in the aftermath of Brexit.
Given the glacial pace of the Brexit negotiations, the issue of the Irish border might not be resolved by 2020, in fact it might not be resolved by 2040.
Borders are never resolved, they change…
Hence, instead of designing a border, the project designs borders. In this moment of uncertainty, what is/are the future(s) of the Irish border? Like all borders, the Irish border was designed, drawn like a sharp line on the map, splitting the spaces hindering its precise cut through the territory. But how come we don’t design borders in relation to what is actually happening on the ground? Can we think of the borderwall as a device? An infrastructure? A place? A passage? A landscape? A home?
The focus on a specific aspect each time, and the resulting exaggerated visions, guides the discourse into an intended direction. From trade, to issues of identity, memory, war and immigration, the border wall is designed through different lenses.
In this uniquely contested site in Ireland, this speculation not only raises questions about the design and presence of the borders themselves, but also provide a framework in which to investigate pressing matters for architects: issues of politics, agency, compliance, resistance, longevity, materiality and symbolism.
In the spirit of Perec and Queneau, the project is a collection of different borders: infrastructural, public, domestic, hard, soft, optimistic, pessimistic, past, present and future.

The number of tourists is a daily struggle the inner city of Amsterdam has to deal with. Thereby the inner city is loveable but not livable. Quick measures must be taken otherwise Amsterdam will disneyficate.

On the other hand, Sloterdijk is one of the underdeveloped neighborhoods of Amsterdam. A big part of the population consists of first- or second-generation immigrants, predominantly Muslims. These immigrants are badly integrated with the rest of Amsterdam and the country.

Attracting tourism to Sloterdijk will relieve the inner city and at the same time, connect Sloterdijk to it. The museum building is by default the first thing which attracts the average tourist in Amsterdam.

However, the museum should add something to the potentials and issues of the art scene in Amsterdam and should offer something extraordinary in the framework of Amsterdam. Currently, artists are leaving the city. The middle segment of the artistic infrastructure disappears. Amsterdam is in need of low cost studios for artists. Besides that, lots of small galleries close because the inner city is too expensive. In the same time, the larger museums are overcrowded and contain millions of artworks in their depots that can never be shown due to lack of space.
