The depletion of natural resources and rising carbon emissions make the adoption of sustainable practices increasingly urgent. Circular Economy (CE) principles, which focus on resource efficiency and waste reduction, offer a clear opportunity to address these challenges. In the Netherlands, viaducts and bridges account for 25% of the CO₂ emissions and material demand in the infrastructure sector, making circular public procurement (CPP) a promising strategy for reducing environmental impact. Despite this potential, scaling CPP faces significant barriers, including risk-averse procurement practices, fragmented knowledge, and limited collaboration between public contracting authorities and the market. This research explores key stakeholder perspectives on interventions to upscale CPP for viaducts and bridges, using Q-methodology to analyze input from 14 participants across public authorities, market parties, and knowledge institutions. Participants ranked 25 interventions derived from literature and empirical research, revealing four perspectives: Practical Circularity, focusing on actionable, short-term solutions; Collaborative Circularity, emphasizing shared responsibility and partnerships; Tactical Circularity, highlighting the importance of standardized frameworks; and Financially-Driven Circularity, prioritizing financial incentives. The results show a clear preference for actionable interventions, with more knowledge-gathering less of a priority . Programmatic approaches and enhanced collaboration are viewed as critical for implementation, while standardized frameworks can support scaling, provided they balance flexibility to address diverse needs. These findings underline the importance of aligning stakeholder priorities to overcome barriers and accelerate circular procurement in infrastructure.

This master's thesis sought to explore the influence of an interactive strategy map on employees' strategic understanding. The objectives of the research were to firstly conceptualize and develop an interactive strategy map, secondly, analyse how employees across the organizational hierarchy interacted with the map, thirdly, to measure employees change in strategic understanding resulting from interacting with the map. To accomplish these objectives the research employed a qualitative approach of data acquisition and analysis, utilizing literature reviews, questionnaires, and user interaction interviews to evaluate the influence of the developed interactive strategy map. To give the map interactive dashboard properties, it was developed in Microsoft PowerBI. The development of the interactive strategy map utilized principles of a research-through-design approach. An initial design draft was created and subsequently customized. This was followed by the generation of a prototype, which was further refined through feedback obtained from user experience interviews. Finally, validation was achieved through the use of Likert-scale questions in questionnaires. The final map featured an array of filters, allowing users to gain additional insights into the strategy content. These filters not only facilitated a deeper understanding of the strategy map framework but also allowed users to personalize and refine the content to align more closely with their specific needs and objectives.

The qualitative results showed that operational management was focused on the overall vision and strategy; middle management was focused on specific tasks and objectives; Senior management was interested in the translation of corporate strategy to business strategy. The Likert-scale results demonstrated that senior management had the highest increase in their “need to understand strategy”, and the operational level had the highest increase in “strategic understanding”. Middle management only reported a slight increase in strategic understanding. Overall, each level highly agreed that the interactive strategy map is an effective tool for strategy communication and mentioned they would use the tool monthly depending on how frequently the content is updated.

In summary, this research concludes that the strategy map, as well as the process of including employees in its development, is an effective way of increasing strategic understanding. Additionally, using a new strategy framework identifies inconsistencies in the existing strategy, thereby increasing coherence in the strategy. Furthermore, including feedback from employees throughout the organizational hierarchy increases strategy cohesion. Lastly, the inclusion of interactive filters and colour coding in a strategy communication tool not only invites inquiry into the strategy, but also makes it more tangible to employees.

Interface management (IM) is an emerging construction management practice that is mainly concerned with the integration effort of (mega)projects through the management of project interfaces. Even though a plethora of benefits is attributed to IM, a clear overview of how to effectively manage interfaces is non-existent. Without a general understanding on what IM entails, false expectations about its use are created. At the same time, IM developments from academic research are facing obstacles in their adoption in practice, for practitioners are often not represented in these developments.

The absence of situated knowledge (i.e. knowledge found and created in practice) in IM development is problematic, for a profession, or professionalism in general, builds on a body of knowledge comprised of integrated knowledge from theory and practice. For this reason, this research has attempted to take a step in the professionalisation of IM by converging the knowledge from theory and practice. That is, enriching the professional content by creating uniformity on the concept of IM and its key principles. The following research question underpinned this effort: What step can be taken in the professionalisation of IM, based on the perspectives from theory and practice?

For this, the theoretical perspectives on IM and its professionalisation were studied first, by means of a literature review. Then, practitioner perspectives were studied on the same topics through semi-structured interviews with twelve practitioners involved in the different domains of integral project management. These practitioners were all employed by a large Dutch engineering and consultancy firm. The gathered data was then subject to thematic analysis.

A comparison of the findings revealed a similar dichotomy in IM in both theory and practice: a distinction between the technical and organisational aspect. As the results showed possibilities for professionalisation from both sides, it was argued that professionalisation should ultimately happen on both fronts.

To create a basis for professionalism, an appropriate means to integrate the theoretical and situated knowledge needed to be found. To this end, literature on the professionalisation of related construction management disciplines was consulted. Inspired by the professionalisation of risk management, a set of key principles was deemed an appropriate medium to integrate the theoretical and situated knowledge of IM. Hence, a rough guide to IM has been created containing key principles. These principles have been validated by two IM experts in separate validation interviews.

Concluding, the development of a set of key principles of IM is the answer to the research question, which in itself provides a step towards professionalisation. Uniformity on the topic has now been created by the convergence of knowledge from theory and practice. The principles thereby lay a foundation for (professionalism in) conducting IM, while leaving room for customisation at the same time. Practitioners from the different roles of integrated project management are recommended to use the principles at the start of (infrastructure) construction projects to create an understanding of interfaces and IM in general. It is believed that in this way the established uniformity on paper can be translated to practice.
