Childhood trauma can have lasting effects on emotional regulation, particularly as individuals transition into young adulthood. This project investigates how early traumatic experiences impact emotional expression and stability in young adults aged 18 to 25—a critical developmental stage. By examining these challenges through the lens of hypervigilance—a prevalent aspect of performance anxiety in academic and professional settings—the research reveals how heightened self-doubt, anxiety, and negative self-talk contribute to and perpetuate hypervigilance.

The core outcome of this research is Converse Pro, a conceptual card-based tool designed to help young adults overcome performance anxiety. This tool integrates practical strategies for managing emotional dysregulation with access to a supportive online community, providing a holistic approach to personal and professional development.

The project also identifies areas for future exploration, including the need for further validation of the tool through direct user testing and the potential to expand its features to address a broader range of emotional challenges. Future research could also explore the effectiveness of integrating Converse Pro with existing therapeutic practices and digital mental health resources to maximize its impact.

Citizens experience a growing gap between their lived world and that of governmental institutions. The historical low turnup rate of last municipal elections in Rotterdam, 39%, reflect the low trust people have in the municipality and how they feel unrepresented by the city council. Because of this, municipalities are striving to bring politics closer to citizens and are increasingly working more participatory; including citizens in city- and policy making.

The public good became something that is not created publically anymore. The interaction between the municipality and citizens is characterised by distance: civil servants are used to design services without citizens and citizens are used to a municipality that does its own thing. Both are not used to approaching each other in order to collaboratively make better public spaces, services and policies. If the municipality does not put effort in finding new ways to actively invite people to participate the distance will become bigger, making cities less inclusive and neighbourhoods less liveable.

Participatory activities strengthen the social network of people within a neighbourhood and through this a neighbourhood becomes more resilient. Also through a stronger local network, people tend to engage more in participatory activities. It’s an ongoing challenge for the municipality to include less obvious citizens in this local network of participation processes. The municipality should be a facilitator of community building and actively approach people in order to connect to them.

The Wijkbox concept is an intervention that combines these social and participatory aspects. In this box, citizens can leave their opinion, dreams and concerns about the neighbourhood. The box is handed out by civil servants in the neighbourhood and later passed on from citizen to citizen. As the boxes travel through the neighbourhood, more opinions are collected, more social connections are formed and new people enter the local network. The Wijkbox is a starting point for collaboration related to the topics proposed in the boxes. It allows civil servants to approach citizens more personally and provides citizens an accessible way to form their opinion about the neighbourhood, possibly stimulating them to join other participatory activities.

The Wijkbox was tested in two pilots with both citizens and civil servants. The Wijkbox shows potential in reaching ‘not-yet-active’ citizens and stimulating social connection within the neighbourhood. Citizens evaluated the form of participation as positive and civil servants were enthusiastic about the personal approach the Wijkbox initiates. At the moment, the concept is being implemented by the municipality in two local projects. It shows that the concept can potentially contribute to the more local approach that the municipality wants to take. The results of these experiments, which will be available after this graduation project, will show whether the concept benefits real-life projects and if it contributes to a long term relationship forming between Rotterdammers and the municipality.

At this moment, the problem of plastic pollution does not need an introduction. Although recycling rates are slowly rising, plastic pollution remains one of the biggest threads to the global ecosystem. Especially in low-to-middle-income countries, industrial recycling systems are sparse due to their required investment.

Precious Plastic is an organization aiming to tackle plastic pollution, step by step. They openly distribute blueprints of recycling machines for anyone to use, which enables local recyclers to start their own informal recycling workshop. Over 40,000 people in 400 workspaces are connected through the Precious Plastic Universe, in which recyclers, designers and plastic collectors collaborate. One of their machines is an injection machine, capable of injecting recycling plastic into a mold (figure 1). This machine is low cost, easy to build, and creates a beautiful marbled aesthetic that convincingly tells the story of the value of recycled plastic.

However, the design of the machine has quite a number of problems. Mainly, it requires an excessive amount of hand-force which exceeds human ergonomic limits. The machine also has a number of safety and buildability issues. Lastly, the machine does not easily enable tailoring due to its monolithic design. Next to the problems relating to the injection machine, Precious Plastic has noticed they often miss out on gathering improvements that builders implement in their machine. Due to this, valuable opportunities for development of the machine are not redeemed. This project aims to tackle these problems through two design outcomes. The first outcome is an online framework where users can tailor their injection machine based on their needs and upload their machine improvements. The concept aims to transform the current monolithic design sharing system into an inviting modular framework.

The second outcome is an advanced version of the injection machine. The goal aimed to develop, validate and document a functioning prototype of an advanced arbor injection machine. The design of the machine decreases the required input force by 70%, while producing a higher injection pressure and solving the prior safety and usage problems. The design of the machine was developed in active collaboration with a group of experienced machine builders and will be distributed throughout the Precious Plastic Universe.

In the end, both design outcomes contribute towards a more sustainable world, in which people are empowered through Open Source Hardware and plastic is in fact precious.

The aim of this project was to get a better understanding of the shape memory behaviour of 3D-printed polymers, and the different parameters which affect this, with the ultimate goal to apply shape memory in product design. This project started with a literature study on shape memory polymers and 3D-printing. The material properties, different types of shape memory and different actuation methods were investigated, as well as different 3D-printing techniques and using shape memory polymers in 3D-printing. Existing applications and concepts using shape memory polymers, as well as recent studies in applying these materials were also investigated. In parallel to the literature study, testing was done on the influence of different parameters on the shape memory behaviour of one of the most common FDM 3D-printing materials: PLA. Through an iterative process, a test sample was designed which was used to test parameters related to material (different types of PLA), manufacturing (printing settings), and design (geometry and orientation of models). Knowledge gained through the literature research and testing was combined to create design guidelines for manufacturing shape memory objects using 3D-printing. To demonstrate how the shape memory capabilities of 3D-printed PLA could be applied in product design, A product concept was developed. With a vision as a starting point, ideation and concept development was started by first having a brainstorm session with different people to learn how people not involved with the project envisioned shape memory in product design. Moving on from this, useful results from this session were taken into an ideation phase, where a multitude of different ideas were thought up. From these ideas, four were chosen to be developed into concepts, of which one was chosen to be further developed into a physical prototype. The chosen concept was a wake-up light which uses the heat of the lightbulb inside the lamp to heat the shape memory material and initiate shape recovery, which resulted in the lamp gradually giving off more light. This would wake up the user in a natural way. The concept, which was given the name ‘’DAWN’’, was developed into a physical demonstrator, and the shape memory parts were printed based on the established guidelines. This also served as a test for the guidelines to see how they could be applied in the design process. After testing several printed prototype parts, a final design for the demonstrator was created and produced. At the end of the project, the process and results were evaluated and recommendations were given for further research into 3D-printing shape memory objects.

This thesis looks into the application of self-reinforced polypropylene (SRPP) in a tablet cover for the company Gecko Covers. Gecko Covers is a company that provides protection for devices in the form of covers and sleeves. They are performing at their best in the tablet market. They would like to enter the impact resistant tablet cover market using an impact cover that is both impact resistant and stylish. Their product style is characterized by the usage of contrast in both material texture and color, simple shapes and an attention to detail. Based on a market analysis, the tablet user on the go is selected as target group. These people carry their tablets with them wherever they go. To differentiate from the current competitors in this tablet market segment, Gecko has to focus on reducing the environmental impact of the new cover by e.g. making it recyclable. The most important material properties for the impact cover are high toughness, low density and a minimum ductile-to-brittle temperature of -20 °C. Not only does SRPP meet these requirements, it is also recyclable as it is only made out of a single type of thermoplastic. The manufacturing process of producing laminates out of woven SRPP influences the material properties such as impact resistance. Literature research shows that a combination of hot compaction and film stacking improves the impact resistance of the SRPP laminate the most. The values of the other parameters which influence the material properties of the laminates were determined through trial and error. To evaluate the SRPP laminates, a bending fatigue test and an alternative Izod impact test were conducted. In the end, the laminates with a compaction temperature of 170 °C, a pressure of 1,73 bar, an active heating time of 5 min and 1 PP film layer in between the SRPP fiber layer are the toughest and ductile. The focus of the design was on a minimum viable product. A back structure inspired by those of suitcases, the screen edge and the regular corners and edges of the cover were all taken into account. To validate that the shape is manufacturable from SRPP, a proof of concept was made with a mold. Furthermore, this proof of concept was tested via a drop test to get more information about the actual performance of the SRPP layer and to determine which orientation would have the highest impact resistance. The drop test showed the importance of the screen edge, which was missing from the proof of concept as it cannot be made out of SRPP. The test also showed that the SRPP lacked damping. To add the screen edge and the damping to the product, additional injection molded PP was used in order to add the screen edge and damping elements to the product. The final design was inspired by natural Voronoi structures and also creates a contrast in material texture and color, matching the current style of Gecko Covers.

The general concept and meaning of mobility have been changing and evolving since the start of mankind. Mobility has become more than getting from point A to B. Mobility is changing from solely being a means to reach a specific goal into being a goal on its own. PwC also realized this. However, at this moment PwC has no vision to do something with this mobility paradigm shift for themselves or their clients. This graduation project focused on the development this mobility vision for PwC and a design based on this vision. This is formulated in the assignment: Design a meaningful product (- service system) that enables, facilitates or improves personal mobility, in the Netherlands, by 2035.

Through conducting research, I created a future context. The future context is composed out of twelve cases in which people are unable to take personal responsibility for their mobility. It prevents them from creating favorable conditions in which they and others are able to create a better self. Together with PwC I decided to focus on the increasing socio-economic inequality case because, positively contributing to that case is most in line with PwC’s own vision. The selected case is about people are not able to take personal responsibly to effectively use their mobility to grow their prosperity or that of others, due to new (global) external factors.

I created a mobility vision for PwC that is focused at delivering a positive contribution to the above-mentioned problem. The goal of the vision is: PwC wants people to responsibly use their short-term mobility to create a better self. Essential is that the success of it depends on the increase and/or improvement in short- and long-term socio-economic prospects for themselves and others too. Moreover, these prospectives should honor the creation of a better world for flora and fauna. PwC can achieve this by: Creating with people’s mobility surplus personal interdependencies, between people’s short- and long-term socio-economic prospects.

Flock has been created to realize this vision. Flock is a mobility system, owned by the Dutch government, which uses road pricing to charge users based on their departure and arrival location of their journey. Users traveling from a geographical area, which is valuable for society, to another area which is less valuable will be charged less than vice versa. Flock calls these geographical ‘mobility epicentres’. This leads to more socio-economic equality which is more uniformly spread in the Netherlands on the long-term. Additionally, Flock offers people the ability to participate in a nation-wide de-centralized mobility network. People participate by investing in it with a privately-owned product that is capable of providing mobility. This is called ‘mobility virtualization’. If done successfully, the user will be granted access to means that are invested by others in the network that provide mobility. This can be in the same or different mobility epicenters. The government is in possession of a desktop application and the user, mostly Dutch citizens, are in possession of a smartphone app to interact with the mobility system.

Cancer is a complex disease which requires interdisciplinary care. There are various developments ongoing within cancer care and its complexity. A task reallocation which is boosted by the government and new standards from SONCOS make it compulsory to have a fixed point of contact for cancer patients. Dijklander Ziekenhuis wants to introduce case management for cancer patients. Hereby, it is needed to investigate the needs and wishes of the patients and the caregivers and take into account the status quo and strategy of the hospital. Based on the research activities, the advise to Dijklander Ziekenhuis is to implement case management to prevent patients for referral and communication errors. At the same time it is advised to take a unique position by offering guidance throughout the treatment process and especially in the approach towards consults. This could be done by providing extra support, coaching and (informational) tools during the treatment process. This advise is transformed into a design of three deliverables. A care pathway, a Business Case and an Implementation Manual. The new care pathway is designed in such a format that it gives substance to the future vision of the Cancer Centre. The modular format meets the wishes to deliver bespoke and patient-centred care while expertise is retained and the overall process is monitored due to the new module within the pathway: the bridge. The care pathway also can be a ‘secret weapon’ to be leading in cancer care due to the design in three layers what makes possible better communication towards patients. This is essential for shared decision making. With all these characteristics, the new Care Pathway appears to be a gold mine on the way to better (colorectal) cancer care within Dijklander Ziekenhuis. The Implementation Manual literally describes the promising way towards better (colorectal) cancer. The aim of the Implementation Manual is to transform the current Cancer Centre into the desired future Cancer Centre in which the new Care Pathway is integrated. There is chosen for a phased implementation approach including pilots. In this way, there is expected a minimal disruption to the patient care and possible problems can be resolved quickly. The Business Case is written to make sure that the preconditions that are necessary to work towards better (colorectal) cancer in Dijklander Ziekenhuis will be met. Preconditions were mainly budget and formation related. Within this study, it became clear that there are extra nurse specialists needed. On the other hand, relatively less medical specialists are needed.

VerdraaidGoed is a circularity consultancy with expertise in upcycling the waste of organisations. They are growing rapidly, and a scalable approach would be advantageous, so the company can expand without compromising performance and revenue. The assignment of this thesis is to find the best approach for the activities of VerdraaidGoed.

Research was conducted in two areas: a literature review was done, and existing practices were observed and questioned extensively. The literature study resulted in aspects that would be beneficial to include in the design, such as flexibility, setting criteria, planning and reflection, encouraging leadership, and guiding to a result that is competitive, healthy for human welfare, environmentfriendly, and stimulates entrepreneurship.

From the broad company and project analysis, a deep understanding of the upcycle projects arose. These projects have three stages: advice, development and sale. The approach used in the advice stage is the focus of this thesis and was observed thoroughly. It involves scanning a client organisation, looking for the potential of produced waste and giving advice on how to deal with the waste. From this, gaps in the approach and used tools were discovered. The opportunities for improvement include the assessment of all materials, equal elaboration of all results, adding more tools and creating a possibility for integration with a database. Next to the observations, interviews were held with all user types of the approach. That resulted in the extra notes that the approach could be shareable and clear visuals were needed to convey the approach and steps within it.

The synthesis of all the insights lead to three overarching themes: clear structure, effective design, efficient resources. These three themes summarise what the final design of the approach needs to inherit. With these three themes, a very iterative design process was completed which resulted in a final design.

The final design consists of one metaphor, two approaches, six processes, ten tools and thirty-one activities. The metaphor, approach and processes are visuals, because quick understandability is its decisive function. The activities and tools are elaborated in an instruction manual form, with accessible instructions to follow and easy to use tools.

This project resulted in an approach tailored to VerdraaidGoed with scalability possibilities, which will allow VerdraaidGoed to grow without compromising themselves, so they can become a worldwide expert on circularity and upcycling in particular.

This report comprises a strategical design graduation assignment, drafted for the Strategic Product Design master at the Delft University of Technology. The project is commissioned by boardsport lifestyle brand Brunotti.

Project goal
The many differences between Brunotti’s two product collections (boardsport hardware and boardsport lifestyle apparel) imply brand inconsistencies. This project aims to reveal these inconsistencies and, accordingly, propose a strategy that (1) helps eliminating the inconsistencies and (2) helps gaining competitive advantage.

Literary substantiation
Literature confirms the importance of consistency for Brunotti by supporting that offering a wide variety of products has a positive effect on a brand’s perception, but only if the overall message it embodies is consistent. Besides a brand’s effort to convey a certain message, the customers’ character proves to play an important role in how a brand is perceived and, as a result, how likely they are to accept brand extensions.

Brand analysis
The message that Brunotti wants to convey can be traced back to its origin in many ways, despite the several major operational changes that the company has gone through. Whereas the brand was founded from a single man’s (Claudio Brunotti) passion for windsurfing, it is now an internationally well-established corporate. Despite this large transformation, Brunotti stayed close to Claudio’s love for boardsports and sense for fashion design and high-quality products.

At the very core of Brunotti’s intended message are the values ‘Authentic’, ‘Active’, and ‘Innovative’. ‘Authenticity’ embodies the brand’s rich heritage, ‘Active’ embodies the boardsport lifestyle that the brand propagates, and ‘Innovative’ embodies the aim for technical products that set new standards. Secondly, at the core of Brunotti’s identity is the philosophy ‘No Matter The Conditions’. The philosophy calls to embrace the forces of the elements, the ever-changing weather conditions and unpredictable seasons. The third important part of Brunotti’s intended message is the brand’s desire of becoming a more premium brand. Being an premium brand typically means being well-known, taking position in the high-end of the market and conveying high-quality.

Brand perception analysis
A quantitative research among Brunotti’s (potential) hardware and apparel customers is conducted in the form of an online questionnaire. The research is setup to reveal the gaps between Brunotti’s intended and the perceived message. Thus, it aims to disclose inconsistencies in what Brunotti wants to be and what they are in the eyes of the customer. Somewhat 200 responses reveal that the most critical inconsistencies (gaps) between Brunotti’s intended and perceived identity do not occur between the two customer segments (hardware and apparel), nor between the perception of the two product collections (hardware and apparel). The most critical gaps occur between the customers’ overall perception and Brunotti’s intentions in term of:

Quality. The perceived quality is not low, but still consistently lower than intended. To reach a premium brand status, a higher perceived quality is desirable.
Innovative character. The brand Brunotti and its products are perceived as far less innovative than intended. Being one of Brunotti’s core values, this sense of innovativeness needs to become much stronger in the minds of the customer.
Philosophy. The brand perception analysis indicates a lower association with reliability and honesty than intended. This denotes a mismatch with Brunotti’s philosophy to support their customers ‘No Matter The Conditions’.

The Solution Space
The solutions to closing the identified gaps are to exist in the solution space that derived from the brand perception analysis. This virtual space is where high quality and innovative product features, that are applicable to Brunotti hardware- and apparel products, support their customers’ lifestyle ‘No Matter The Conditions’. Hereto, over a hundred boardsport lifestyle pains are identified in an exploratory session with four boardsport practitioners. To come up with innovative solutions for these pains, smart materials served as input for several creative problem-solving sessions. The ‘No Matter The Conditions’ philosophy is the final piece to the puzzle. From this philosophy, the ‘Embrace the Elements’ strategy emerged. The ‘Embrace the Elements’ strategy employs the four basic elements (sun, air, earth and water) to classify, not only the proposed product features, but also Brunotti’s products, and the boardsports that are the very reason for existence of the brand. In this way, Brunotti conveys a consistent message on all three levels, namely;

Product-feature ideas
The strategy is employable to the brand-core-, and product-level through mere classification. How the strategy is employable on a product-feature level becomes concrete in the ideation phase of this project. A large number of - element - product feature ideas proved the versatility of the ‘Embrace the Element’ strategy. Some ideas are of course better than others. Therefore, a selection is made together with Brunotti’s Head of Design and Development Director. Moreover, one of the selected ideas is brought into a further stage of development and prototyped as a real-life showcase of the strategy’s capability of driving innovation.

Strategic implementation
The applicability of the features to both product collections and planning are of great importance for the strategic implementation. An overview of the features’ applicability (to hardware and apparel products) helps showcasing their suitability for creating consistency throughout Brunotti’s product portfolio. Depending on the complexity of the idea and the readiness of the technology it holds, some ideas can be put to market quicker than others. Subsequently, a product feature-introduction-planning is proposed. Keeping Brunotti’s minimal develop period in mind, the first ‘Embrace the Elements’ strategy’s product features can be introduced to the market in 2020.

Product-feature showcase
A prototype of an integrated vacuum compartment in a Brunotti trolley, that allows users to take more luggage, showcases an ‘air’-class innovative product. It showcases the strategy’s capability of driving innovation. Moreover, the prototype allows Brunotti to communicate the idea to manufacturers, and thus accelerates the development process.

Finalisation
The report concludes with a confident note on the ‘Embrace the Elements’ strategy’s capability of achieving the project’s goals, depending on how well the strategy is implemented. It than gives some recommendation on the first steps to take for this implementation. Though some limitations in the research’ setup and distribution, and strategy’s implementation are identified, there is no reason to assume that they cancel out the value of the project’s outcomes.

You are almost at your holiday destination. The ‘fasten your seatbelt’ sign just turned on and the plane started descending. After landing it is time to get out of this confined space, but all the other passengers are thinking the same thing. Everyone stands in the aisle, trying to get their hand luggage out of the overhead bin and exit the plane at the same time. Arriving at the gate you feel relieved you are out and can really start your holiday. The deboarding experience is not the best experience of flying. And seeing it from the perspective of the airline, the delays caused by this process are increasing. To investigate this issue a project was executed at Brussels Airlines. A research observing the deboarding of 28 flights showed the causes for blocks in the passenger flow going out of the plane. Four out of five are related to the hand luggage people bring. An A-B test with 16 passengers shows taking away the trolleys can save up to 80% of the deboarding time. Therefore, five concepts are proposed to make the deboarding smoother by changing the behaviour of people regarding hand luggage. The proposed concepts vary from informing people about the process of deboarding, having a new boarding & deboarding strategy based on the luggage people bring, convince people to bring less hand luggage giving direct feedback on their luggage at the airport, setting up a sharing community at every destination and the last concept focusses on educating people about the consequences of hand luggage in a game. The last concept is delivered as a final concept and explained more detailed. The concept called ‘The luggage games’ is a smartphone application passengers can play before they fly. It includes three different mini-games, related to 3 parts of the passenger journey while flying which include hand luggage. The passenger gets positive feedback when packing light and making sure the plane is boarded and deboarded smoothly with hand luggage. Negative feedback will be given when too much hand luggage is on board, informing the passenger about consequences of the hand luggage on operations and with direct consequence on the flying experience. This way people can learn what the consequences are of bringing a lot of hand luggage and make them more aware the next time they pack their bag for inside the cabin. This solution will therefore inform the passengers, nudging them towards taking less hand luggage in a fun way instead of simply banning the hand luggage from the plane as a rule set by the airline.

When people experience pain, discomfort or motion limitation in their hip joint they can get a hip implant. This implant improves the movement and decreases the pain and discomfort. Due to several reasons such an implant needs revision after ten to fifteen years. This revision surgery is a long and invasive surgery. When an implant is fixated with bone cement this surgery is even more cumbersome. Research shows that the lifespan of cemented implants is better than uncemented, but because of the difficult surgery surgeons are choosing uncemented implants more often, leaving the patient with a lesser implant. The aim of this project is to improve hip revision surgery in such a way that surgeons would choose cemented implants over uncemented.

Observing several surgeries, interviewing different stakeholders and reading literature showed that the main issue with cemented implants is the fixation of the new implant. This new implant needs a soilless surface to attach to. Removing the cement to ensure this clean surface is really hard, riskful and time consuming. Observations made clear that there is no strict procedure for this part of the surgery and that the amount of instruments meant for cement removal is almost endless. All the found insights were translated into the following design goal:

Compose a minimal cement removal set of “my precious” instruments that could be used for HRS, that fits a fast, feasible, clear and safe cement removal procedure and lets the orthopaedic surgeon remove cement in a safe, efficient, confident and tangible way.

To achieve this design goal a new procedure, a suitable minimal instrument set and a new cement removal instrument are designed. The procedure gives the surgeon more grip on the surgery and enables routine building. The instrument set supplies the surgeon with the right amount, not too much and not too little, of instruments needed to perform cement removal. And the Guido, a drill guide that helps the surgeon with removing the part of cement that is hardest to reach, makes the cement removal faster and more safe.

The procedure and instrument set are discussed with medical professionals to validate whether it would solve the current problem. Besides that, a prototype of the Guido is made, which is tested on fake bones by three orthopaedic surgeons. The procedure, set and the Guido all were received very well and the surgeons could not wait to work with it.

The concepts seem promising, but need further development. The materialization of the product needs to be finished and a CE certificate needs to be requested to be able to test it on cadavers.

Philips Lighting has developed a new technology that allows LED lighting to be embedded into concrete. The goal of this assignment was to find a new business opportunity for this technology. After a thorough research the conclusion was drawn that architects are very interested in this technology, but they see different possibilities and want to use it for different applications. On top of that, architects would like to have more control of the total design including the lighting design aspect of their designs.

This assignment resulted in PAL, Philips Architectural Lighting. PAL is a product-service-marketing system that inspires and enables architects to design integrated lighting applications as an integral part of their architectural project.

Lots of people go camping to submerge in nature to break with their busy daily routine. Current camping shelters do not seem to support the desired nature experience of these campers. While protecting these campers from external conditions the shelters closes the campers off from the outdoors they came for. This led to the following hypothesis:Current camping shelters do not fit the desired nature camping experience.By researching campers and their context this hypothesis is confirmed. Besides confirming the hypothesis the research gave two other noteworthy insights about the desired camping experience. Firstly, the research showed that these campers like to have the possibility to make a camping spot their own. Secondly, it was indicatedthat they want to have the possibility to retreat in this own created place, secluding themselves form the outdoors. Combining these findings with a future shelter and interaction vision led to the following design goal:To design a shelter where the feeling of being outside and inside merge smoothly into one another, giving the user the opportunity to seclude from and submerge in their surrounding. Meanwhile enabling the user to break with their daily routine and make a shelter and by that, making their camping spot their own, in a mindful and exploratory manner.The concept designed based on this design goal is a modular shelter named the LUCID. The LUCID consists of seven components, which can be configured in multiple ways. Four configurations are designed during this project; other possible configurations are left to the user. Giving them the option to make the shelter and camping spot their own. Each of the four designed configurations can be opened and closed from the inside to ensure the user that they can both submerge in and seclude from the surroundings.To answer the question whether or not it is a good idea to continue developing the LUCID (after completing this graduation project) a concept evaluation research is carried out. Based on this evaluation and the opinion of a consulted camping and outdoor specialist the advise on continuing the development of the LUCID is positive.
