Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are essential for protecting computer systems and networks from malicious attacks. However, IDSs face challenges in dealing with dynamic and imbalanced data, as well as limited label availability. In this thesis, we propose a novel elastic gradient boosting decision tree algorithm, namely Elastic CatBoost Uncertainty (eCBU), that adapts to concept drifts and copes with label scarcity by using a novel sequential uncertainty estimation method. We compare our method with state-of-the-art techniques on synthetic and real-world datasets and show that it achieves comparable accuracy and higher robustness to limited label availability in intrusion detection tasks.

P3D is an injection moulding company that uses a technology called PRIM® (Printed Injection Mould) to create products for its customers. Different from traditional moulding companies, P3D’s main business model resolves around an efficient workflow and fast delivery of products to its customers. At the moment P3D is able to quickly fabricate and deliver its products be-cause of a small team of skilled designers and engineers who have lots of expertise in the field of injection moulding. Unfortunately, relying on the expertise of its employees, a lot of data about the company’s workflow is memorised or written down. This poses a problem as P3D would like to grow in the future and will not be able to entirely rely on memorised or analogue data.The goal of this project is to create a data management system (DMS) that digitises information about P3D its workflow and saves it in an easily accessible centralised system.

Blockchain is a technology that is in use increasingly. Although owing its common use to the cryptocurrencies there is more to the blockchain technology than just the monetary use. One of these uses is by smaller groups of participants under the control of a central authority, for instance at a company. Such private blockchains use permissioned blockchain consensus algorithms as the participants need the permission of the authority to be able to join the system. This paper will give an overview of the blockchain technology, investigate permissioned and permissionless blockchain, and focus on permissioned blockchains to analyze it in terms of, e.g. trust models between the nodes, incentives, number of nodes & parties involved, and scalability regarding the number of transactions.
