The purpose of this study is to suggest the policy planning and the policy model for CPTED in order to make CPTED become more established and activated. The process for this study is as follows: i) the related laws, policies, and pilot projects of the government ministries and the local governments were analyzed, ii) the perception, the prospect, and the requisite for CPTED were investigated by the questionnaire survey targeting experts in CPTED and related public officials, iii) the direction of general planning for CPTED and the practical strategies were suggested based on the literature review and survey analysis. The vision of the suggested policy planning is community revitalization through establishment of safe living environment, and actualizing measures as follows: i) a definite CPTED plan which are prescribed by each government ministries and local government, ii) effective CPTED operating and management method by reorganization of administrative system, iii) the successive practice method considering the characteristic of each local district.@en

The purpose of this study is to consider measures for crime prevention and improvement of city appearance on the design Seoul street by matching public design guidelines and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design(CPTED). Public design guidelines for Seoul were analysed, and it was revealed that approximately 20 percent of the guidelines accorded closely with CPTED strategies. Natural surveillance principle through facility design and space zoning, and maintenance principle are the most frequently applied for the CPTED strategies. According to the result of field survey and questionnaire survey on the design Seoul street, it was found that the main type of fear of crime in the research area was related to the personal crimes such as violence, pocket-picking, theft, sexual offence and theft, and the fear of crime was low and satisfaction of the street environment was high on the street which was designed based on public design guidelines. To utilize public design guidelines in terms of preventing crime, it is required to add supplementary guidelines for design and installation of security facilities such as CCTV, lighting, and alarm and items for management and activation of space on the design Seoul street.@en

The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between residents’ satisfaction for security systems and the fear of crime at each divided territory in multi-family housings, so as to investigate the direction for improving crime-safe environment. The observation survey and the questionnaire survey on residents’ satisfaction in usability and safety of the applied security systems, the fear of crime at each territory which is divided into 3 layers, and functional requirements for security systems were conducted in the 3 multi-family housings in Seoul; 2 of them applied one-pass system and 1 of them did not. The results of these survey were analysed statistically by SPSS program, and compared with the analysis of observation survey. The results of this study are as follows. First, the residents’ satisfaction for one-pass system is relatively high, but it is needed to develop proper management system to improve security efficiency. Second, in underground parking lots, it is required to increase legibility
using signboards or super graphics and to vitalize underground space through community facilities, such as fitness and community centers. Third, location, number and management issues of CCTV should be considered to elevate the effectiveness of CCTV. Finally, pilotis spaces must be designed to make up for the weak points of security systems and to increase surveillance.@en
