Since mechatronics was proposed in 1969, it has been applied in many fields, such as automotive, manufacturing, materials processing, consumer production, defense systems, aerospace, medical, etc. Mechatronics is defined as the combination of mechanical and electronic engineering with computational power. The design of any mechatronic system is a multidisciplinary activity and is performed to attain product-related advantages, which cannot be obtained by monodisciplinary efforts. Along with the benefits from having several engineering disciplines involved in the design activity, complexity of the task increases accordingly.
Rapid development of intelligent control techniques has also brought changes in the automotive industry and led to the development of autonomous or self-driving vehicles. To overcome traffic and environment issues, self-driving transport uses a number of sensors for vision and navigation systems, actuators to control mechanical systems, and computers to process the data. At present, transportation is an interdisciplinary area that covers all mechatronics fields.
This Special Issue aims to publish high-quality research papers on the interdisciplinary field of mechatronics technology and transportation sustainability.@en
