After the discovery of high concentrations of heavy minerals on the beach of the Dutch barrier-island Ameland, the radiometric fingerprinting technique was developed to assess offshore heavy-mineral concentrations. These measurements revealed cross-shore variations in the heavy-mineral concentration. To determine which mechanisms generate these variations in sediment density and what the effects of these placers are on sediment transport and profile deformation, laboratory experiments are conducted. These experiments comprise measurements of hydrodynamics, profile deformation, suspended sediment concentrations and sediment composition under storm conditions on a I :40 sloping bed with varying sediment composition.@en
