Abstract

The offshore wind sector is a fast-developing sector, with turbine sizes increasing year after year.
This thesis investigates the evolution of the foundation installation sector, highlighting technological advancements, scaling challenges, and future opportunities. The installation of foundations has become increasingly complex, due to the increasing turbine sizes, deeper water projects, and stricter environmental regulations. The research identifies scaling challenges such as handling larger foundations, adapting vessels, and lowering environmental impacts like noise pollution. Furthermore, the study looks into how the future of the foundation installation sector will develop, and what will influence the future growth of the sector.

This research combines past developments with future trends to provide valuable insights into how the offshore wind industry can continue to grow sustainably. The findings highlight the importance of innovation, collaboration, and adaptability in meeting the ambitious renewable energy targets.
