Abstract
Shortly after the Sand Motor was constructed, strong winds suspended large clouds of fine sediment in the air. These local sand clouds could reach up to 100 m high and travel several kilometers inland into the urban areas of Kijkduin. About half a year later, the nuisance disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared. What happened to this extreme aeolian activity, unprecedented along the Dutch coast?
